Q&A

Your wedding day. If you choose to have it captured by Angelsmith Photography, what can you expect?

What’s your style?
Simple, beautiful, truthful images bursting with life and passion. Capturing moments and emotions. There is minimal posing and minimal intervention. Some light guiding may occur when appropriate, especially during the ‘creative’ photography, but largely you’ll be able to enjoy the day without worrying about a photographer who is telling you what to do, how to stand or how long to smile. A good way to describe it is creative photo-journalism. It’s about you, not me.

What makes your work different?
A lot of passion, time and love goes into my work. I take great pride in producing images that I would personally want for my own wedding and images that faithfully represent the day in its entirety. Each wedding involves 40-50 hours of work for me, from the time I first speak with you right through the wedding day, the editing process and beyond. I spend a lot of time personally adjusting your images to ensure they are ‘just right’. This involves a process of colour-correction and subtle enhancements, to really make the images come to life. I feel passionately about each wedding, and love to build relationships with the couples I photograph.

Can we still have formal and family photos?
Of course. Time is always allocated for this very important part of your celebrations. I will take as many family and group photos as you need.

Do you do posed photography as well? Can I give you a shot list?
It’s great for you to articulate what it is you love about photography and the kind of ‘feel’ you like. If you have some examples of photos you’ve seen and liked, or just ideas, please feel free to share them with me! However, because of the candid and the creative manner in which I capture moments at each wedding, I don’t accept shot lists (e.g. “Bride and groom sharing first kiss at altar, three-quarter pose”, etc) The important moments are covered, and quite often at times you don’t realise it’s happening!

How much do you charge?
Click here to view information about my pricing, or contact me to discuss an individual package or quote.

Will you travel around SA, interstate or internationally for my wedding?
Absolutely! If you’re having a destination wedding or travelling elsewhere for any part of your celebrations, I’d be happy to tailor a quote for you.

Do you give us copyright of the photos?
I don’t provide copyright to photos – that is, according to intellectual and creative property laws, I (as an artist) have created the images and retain the rights to reproduction. However, I provide all my clients with a printing license. This means that you can take the photos to have them printed and enlarged at your leisure. This license applies only to the bride and groom; subsequent licenses (a.k.a discs) need to be purchased in order that the license can extend to friends and relatives as well.

My wedding coverage always includes your photographs as high-resolution digital negatives. This means that you’ll receive the large-version images that can be printed and compiled as you wish. They’re all individually enhanced using my special ‘blend’ of post-production techniques, to ensure a subtle wow-factor! All images are taken on high-end professional digital equipment. Your negatives are provided on archival discs after the wedding.

I’d like to design an album myself, so I don’t think I need the proof book. Can you just give me the photos on disc?
I sometimes get asked this question. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide disc-only packages. Images look vastly different between monitors (mainly due to calibration), and a printed product is the only way to guarantee that you will see exactly the colour and finish that was intended during post-processing. I feel these products are importantly intertwined, and so I don’t separate them.

Can you print photos for us? Do you design albums?
I can organise to have photographs printed if you require. Albums are definitely available, but we’d need to sit down and discuss your preferences as there are so many styles and variables to choose from! Quotes can be provided on request.

How long does it take for us to receive our final work?
Your initial web proofs are usually available within 2-3 weeks of the wedding, while your final proof book and negatives are available within 4-5 weeks of the wedding. In peak wedding season (Mar-Apr and Oct-Nov) the delivery time may be a little longer. Every effort is made to ensure products are received in a timely manner but, should there be any delays, you will always be advised.

Do you have a second photographer?
Not on a confirmed basis. From time to time, I may employ the services of a second shooter, but if you wish to guarantee that one will be available, an additional fee is involved. Most weddings include a non-photographing assistant, who is there to assist with lighting and equipment.

Can you cover the whole reception?
I am available to photograph nearly as much of the reception as you like. An extra charge is involved for this service, as my coverage includes up to half an hour of the reception (which provides plenty of time to capture your official entry, the mock cutting of the cake, a mock first dance if required, and photographs of the room and table settings). For my personal safety in regards to transport and alertness, there is a general cap on the duration I can spend at the reception (and sometimes accommodation may be required if the reception is being held a considerable distance from my home) – it really varies depending upon where the reception is being held. If you’d like to know for sure, just chat to me about the specific plans you have for your day.

How can we book you?
If you think I might be the right photographer for you, just call or email me to arrange a meeting so that you can view more of my work and meet me in person. A retainer (deducted from the total package price) is payable to secure your wedding date, along with a balance payment, payable no later than 30 days prior to the wedding. The retainer is non-refundable, but can be transferred to a new date free of charge, provided that my calendar can accommodate the date change! Tentative bookings cannot be made, so it is best to make your booking ASAP if you feel you would like me to capture your day!
