Q&A

Your wedding day. If you choose to have it captured by Angelsmith Photography, what can you expect?

What’s your style?
Simple, beautiful, truthful images bursting with life and passion. Capturing moments and emotions. There is minimal posing and minimal intervention. Some light guiding may occur when appropriate, especially during the ‘creative’ photography, but largely you’ll be able to enjoy the day without worrying about a photographer who is telling you what to do, how to stand or how long to smile. A good way to describe it is creative photo-journalism.

What makes your work different?
Well, wedding photography must speak to the bride and groom in question, and my style may not suit everybody. But a lot of passion, time and love goes into my work. I take great pride in producing images that I would personally want for my own wedding and images that faithfully represent your day. Each wedding involves 40-50 hours of work for me, from the time I first speak with you right through the wedding day, the editing process and beyond. I spend a lot of time personally adjusting your images to ensure they are ‘just right’. This involves a process of colour correction and subtle enhancement to really make the images come to life. I feel passionately about each wedding, and love to build relationships with the couples I photograph.

Can we still have formal and family photos?
Of course. Time is always allocated for this very important part of your celebrations. If you are seeking a particular pose or photo, I can do my best to use it as a framework for my own take on the subject. I prefer not to work from too many ‘example’ images or from a stock list of images, but I will always listen to your suggestions if you have them.

How much do you charge?
Click here to view information about my pricing. I strive to be flexible and do my best to create a package that suits your requirements.

Will you travel around SA, interstate or internationally for my wedding?
Absolutely! If you’re having a destination wedding or travelling elsewhere for any part of your celebrations, I’d be happy to tailor a quote for you.

Do you let us keep the negatives?
My wedding coverage always includes your photographs as high-resolution digital negatives. This means that you’ll receive the large-version images that can be printed and compiled as you wish. They’re all individually enhanced using my special ‘blend’ of post-production techniques, to ensure a subtle wow-factor! All images are taken on a 12.1 megapixel camera, which means that your enlargements can be printed at a really large size if you need them! Your negatives are provided on archival discs after the wedding.

I’d like to design an album myself, so I don’t think I need the proof book. Can you just give me the photos on disc?
I sometimes get asked this question. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide disc-only packages. Images look vastly different between monitors (mainly due to calibration), and a printed product is the only way to guarantee that you will see exactly the colour and finish that was intended during post-processing. I feel these products are crucially intertwined, and I would not wish to separate them.

Can you print photos for us? Do you design albums?
I can organise to have photographs printed if you require. Albums are definitely available, but we’d need to sit down and discuss your preferences as there are so many styles and variables to choose from! Quotes can be provided on request.

How long does it take for us to receive our final work?
Your initial web proofs are usually available within 2-3 weeks of the wedding, while your final proof book and negatives are available within 4-5 weeks of the wedding. In peak wedding season (Mar-Apr and Oct-Nov) the delivery time may be a little longer. Every effort is made to ensure products are received in a timely manner but, should there be any delays, you will always be advised.

Do you have a second photographer?
Not on a confirmed basis. From time to time, I may employ the services of a second shooter, but if you wish to guarantee that one will be available, an additional fee is involved. Most weddings include a non-photographing assistant, who is there to assist with lighting and equipment.

Can you cover the whole reception?
I am available to photograph nearly as much of the reception as you like. An extra charge is involved for this service, as my coverage includes up to half an hour of the reception (which provides plenty of time to capture your official entry, the mock cutting of the cake, a mock first dance if required, and photographs of the room and table settings). For my personal safety in regards to transport and alertness, there is a general cap on the duration I can spend at the reception (and sometimes accommodation may be required if the reception is being held a considerable distance from my home) – it really varies depending upon where the reception is being held. If you’d like to know for sure, just chat to me about the specific plans you have for your day.

How can we book you?
If you think I might be the right photographer for you, just call or email me to arrange a meeting so that you can view more of my work and meet me in person. A retainer (deducted from the total package price) is payable to secure your wedding date, along with a balance payment, payable no later than 30 days prior to the wedding. The retainer is non-refundable, but can be transferred to a new date free of charge, provided that my calendar can accommodate the date change! Tentative bookings cannot be made, so it is best to make your booking ASAP if you feel you would like me to capture your day!
