Yesterday’s wedding was just beautiful and despite being a little bit cold and damp when I finished for the night, it was an amazing experience and I felt really honoured to have been there. Everything was so relaxed and happy and wonderful.

I’m getting ready for another wedding this afternoon, so I thought I’d offer you all a quick sneak peek of yesterday’s wedding, with more to come soon!

Sonya & Luke {Married!}

Finally, finally, I’ve caught up with myself (as far as weddings are concerned, anyway!) It’s been a pretty busy month!

A couple of weekends ago, on an overcast but humid Saturday, I photographed Sonya and Luke’s beautiful vintage wedding, held in the Ayers House Ballroom. My assistant and I often play a guessing game before each wedding, about the colour of the bridesmaids’ dresses, the bride’s dress and hair style, and the type of flowers. I’m not often right, or if I am, it might be on just one point. But this time, I scored 4 out of 4! Sonya had a really elegant black vintage theme, with stunning dusky silk roses, vintagey pearl and diamante accessories, and a breathtaking dress which made me gasp when I saw it. (Really…I wanted to get married again, just to have a dress like that!)

Sonya and Luke are a quiet couple who clearly adore each other. Watching Luke’s face as Sonya walked down the aisle was amazing. The smile lit up his whole face. I also loved the processional piece – an instrumental string medley of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” and Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”. (Have a look on YouTube – it’s pretty goosebump-inducing!)

The day was gorgeous – the light was beautiful – and we were able to capture some great moments as they celebrated becoming Mr & Mrs! Here are some of my favourites:

Trash the Dress {Sneak Peek}

I spent the afternoon with the beautiful and lovely Kat and Amy (you may recognise Amy from her wedding in November last year), shooting a Trash the Dress session without the boys! We got a few funny looks from passersby, but was a ridiculously fun day. Kat and Amy brought along some cute accessories (most of which I wanted to run away with!) Their hair was styled by Nilia, from Ninette’s Hair City and their makeup artist was Lauren Parkinson. More to come soon!

Fields of Gold: The Portraits

A few weeks ago, I photographed the gorgeous family of photographer Heidi Kerr-McGee (of Heidi K Photography). She won an auction for a portrait package donated to the Clicks for Kids programme. We headed out the Hills in the early evening to capture some fun photos in gorgeous light. Heidi was so creative and brought along some brilliant props for the session – strawberries, teddy bear, tribal masks, teepee, butterflies and spinning flowers. It was a really fun and fast-paced few hours – chasing after her three little girls was fun but also reminded me how unfit I am! Thanks Heidi for purchasing the package and for entrusting me with your family portraits – it was a great afternoon xx

Kate & David {Married!}

Some weddings leave you feeling warm and fuzzy…and that was Kate and David’s wedding last Saturday. From the moment I arrived and watched Kate open a card from her very proud Mum, I knew the day was going to be really special. Kate has an extraordinary sense of fun and as such, most of the photos were spontaneous and captured Kate’s vibrancy and their adoration of each other.

They were married in the Northern Palm Gardens at the Botanic Gardens, which is a popular spot for weddings – but I’ve never encountered light as spectacular as on this day, nor guests as happy and emotion-charged. Pure magic, from start to finish.

Sally & Chris {The Romance Session}

Sally and Chris were married in October last year. Their lovely friend, and Sally’s mother, helped to arrange a portrait session to provide some photographic memories after a disappointing experience with their other wedding photographer.

Lauren Parkinson provided some stunning makeup, while Sally’s friend did her hair and their florist provided some silk flowers as a replication of their original bouquet. They wore their outfits again and we ventured to the gorgeous Himeji Gardens to enjoy some romantic portraits. The light was absolutely perfect.

Working with Sally and Chris was a fabulous experience, and I felt very honoured to have been chosen to be their new photographer. They are both very warm, happy, kind people. They were high school sweethearts – together since Year 9 – and you can definitely tell their love has not faded but grown much stronger since!

A huge thank you to Sally and Chris (and their helpers!) for instilling your trust and investing your time in me, and I hope you enjoy your new photographic memories. Karalee xx

Music By Association

I love music. That might not sound like the most remarkable thing in the world, but I really don’t know if I could manage without music. I have to listen to music while editing photos during the week, studying or driving. I’m a car singer. I often pray that other drivers can’t hear me sing, but I love to sing. It’s an expression of me. I associate music and lyrics with movies, with memories, and with weddings.

Which leads me to this blog post. I was driving somewhere the other day, and a few different songs came on. Suddenly, without my really being aware of it, I was thinking of certain couples and weddings that I’ve photographed – because those songs have entrenched themselves in my mind as being forever associated with them. Whether that song was their processional music, their first dance or simply played while they were getting ready, there are many songs that are like this for me.

I thought it could be interesting to go back and remember the specifics songs that make me remember by association. So, without further ado:

Sam & Sean {Married!}

Sam and Sean were married late in the afternoon at Paxton’s Winery in McLaren Vale – I really love winery weddings (probably because I spent my high school years living in the Barossa!) as they have such a rustic, magic charm to them. I met Sam and Sean for the first time just last Tuesday – Sam booked me after I photographed a friend’s wedding a year or so ago. It was great getting to know them and their gorgeous bridal party. Here are some of my favourite shots from the day:

Fields of Gold {Family Portrait Session}

Tonight I had the honour of photographing the gorgeous Heidi Kerr-McGee, of Heidi K Photography, and her family of three little girls and one husband. Heidi purchased an Angelsmith Photography portrait session from the Clicks for Kids auction, which was held late last year to raise money for a mission trip in Thailand.

The session was so much fun – we found some beautiful spots and some yummy golden light to work with. The great thing about working with a fellow photographer is that she was thinking ahead – there were heaps of cute accessories to work with, including feather pillows, quilts, a teepee, tribal masks, flowers, butterflies, strawberries and teddy bears. (And, because I’m a wedding photographer at heart, I just had to sneak in a few little smoochy moments with Heidi and her other half – but those will come later!)
