Naomi & Stewart | A Sneak Peek

I couldn’t resist posting a little sneaky-peek of Naomi and Stewart’s wonderful wedding from last Saturday – they absolutely adore each other and I can’t wait to share more photos with you! For now, though, please enjoy!

Jenni, Brian & Hannah | A Beautiful Family

You might possibly remember the gorgeous wedding of Jenni & Brian in March last year. Jenni is my husband’s cousin and together she and Brian make the most amazing couple. This week we took a short break and made the 4(ish) hour drive to a small town out of Loxton, where they live on a farm.

Hannah, their first little baby, was born in June and though we had planned to visit earlier, we didn’t quite get the chance! So it was really exciting to make the trip this time and spend some quality time with them all. We took a tour of the family farm – complete with the piggery (lots of cute little Wilburs running around!) and of course had lots of cuddles with our newest cousin.

Now, a few of things to know about me: (a) I don’t often shoot portraits, primarily because I focus on weddings and rarely find the time for non-wedding shoots! (b) I rarely shoot ‘personal’ projects, for the same reason specified in point (a). And (c) I’m not much of a sepia girl – not sure why, it’s just something I don’t find myself leaning toward. Oh, and (d) I’m not a farm-y girl at all, so of course I ran and hid when they were about to sort out a sheep for dinner that weekend!

But for this shoot, I was really happy to combine all four of the above! It was a little bit wet and just a little bit cold, so little Hannah was rugged up with Dad (so cute!) and we ducked into the shed (I was about to say shearing shed, then realised that being a city girl, I probably have that all wrong!) for these photos, along with “puppy” Mousha (who happens to be about as tall as me!)

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed capturing them for Jenni and Brian!

And on the way home, we had to stop and take some shots along a completely deserted road, complete with yummy moody clouds…here’s my favourite!

Kat & Gaz | The Wedding

I was lucky enough to kick off wedding season with Kat and Gaz’s absolutely gorgeous wedding at Belair Country Club! The weather, despite being somewhat concerning in the week leading up to the day, was near-perfect!

I remember meeting with Kat and Gaz and instantly feeling as though I had known them for years. They were so lovely to chat with and relaxed that I knew I just had to photograph their wedding, else I would be missing out on something really special. Luckily for me, they booked and the rest, as they say, was history!

Kat just glowed the entire day. She has a smile that lights up her face and she was just so full of joy. It was a great feeling just being a part of the day, feeling really welcome and immersing myself in the celebration.

I couldn’t have asked for a more enjoyable, happy day to photograph and be a part of – Kat and Gaz, thank you so much for having me!

My Sister’s Wedding

My little sister got hitched the other day.

Those of you who know me on Facebook have probably tired of hearing about it. I suspect I’ve sounded like a broken record, and some of you might be thinking “Just get over it already!” But I can’t. Rhiannon is my one and only sister. She’s two years younger than me, and she’s my best friend. I was always a bit of a mother hen with her – often the slightly more serious, contemplative one. Rhi was the fiery, cheeky little monkey who could melt people with her little grin, almost instantly. We are and look so alike and yet so different – I’m the blondie with blue(ish) eyes, whereas she has gorgeous dark brown hair and eyes, almost Mediterranean (I was always so jealous of that). We have so much in common and yet we are so different.

When she started dating Adam, five years older than she was, I was pretty shocked. She met him after I talked her into pursuing a job at my former workplace, where Adam was one of my co-workers. They seemed like the most unlikely pairing at first, but I have to say that after his second visit to our home as her boyfriend, it felt (to me) like all the pieces of her jigsaw had fallen into place. A funny feeling, but it was so true. I sensed then that they had each found “the one”.

They were engaged on their anniversary a year later (as I had, in true over-romantic-Karalee style, predicted) and, aside from the couple themselves, I’m not sure there was anyone quite as excited about it as me.

Rhi and Adam are yin and yang. Adam has, for a long time, been like a brother to me and my husband. I couldn’t have been prouder being a bridesmaid for Rhi and seeing her marry someone so innately right for her.

As for the day itself – I had many grand notions of doing some photography in amongst my bridesmaidly duties. I even bought a few rolls of film, ready to dust off my long-standing vow to shoot film at a wedding one day (having shot digital-only since I started my wedding photography career). Yet, on the day, I found myself torn between two rather contradictory and frustrating sensations: one, of just wanting to be a bridesmaid and not touch my camera, for fear of shattering the experience of being a part of the wedding; and the other, of feeling a compulsive finger-twitch every time I saw Rhi smile, or a family member hug her, or the moment they were officially married. I was mostly successful in leaving the camera alone, but I confess that I snuck in a few photos as she was getting ready in the morning, and a couple of super-quick shots right as the sun was dipping and we were ready to escape the cold windy beach. These are the photos I’ll share with you here.

P.S. I may be a little biased, but doesn’t she look BEAUTIFUL?

I must also credit Rhiannon’s wonderful suppliers:

I need to say an enormous thank you to the amazingĀ Karen Pfeiffer who was their official photographer, and who has become a wonderful friend. Her photographs are stunning and will show you so much more of the day! Thank you also to her assistant Natalie, who joined her from Lily Avenue Photography.

Featured Weddings!

I’ve been really excited recently to have had a number of Angelsmith weddings published in a various magazines, as well as two gorgeous online wedding blogs. You may remember Rowena & Chris’ gorgeous autumn wedding – an absolutely wonderful day to be a part of. Recently, their wedding was featured on the Wedding Style Guide blog, as well as an amazing US-based wedding blog, OnceWed.

A big thank you to Rowena & Chris for sharing their special day with me, and of course to the blogs for choosing to feature their wedding!
